DIY Infused Oil Recipe in Organic Life Magazine!
So unbelievably stoked for this article that just came out in Organic Life Magazine! The profile also includes a recipe on how to make your own floral-infused botanical hair & body oil so be sure to check it out on my blog!
One correction worth mentioning: I was finally able to overcome my dependence on western meds for recurrent (and severe) poison ivy that plagued my northeastern youth with the miracle that is Jewelweed {Impatiens capensis}, also known as poison ivy’s antidote. This herb was one of the first to instill my faith in plant medicine when I drank & doused myself in it before harvesting Hawthorne berries from an ivy patch as part of my first herbal apprenticeship. After having poison ivy twice already that summer [both times in my eyes], I was certain I’d be doomed – but alas! Despite my skepticism, the Jewelweed protected me perfectly. Endless thanks to all of my herbal teachers & schools who are mentioned here ~ this lineage is built on the minds & skills of knowledge keepers that pave the way for each new generation of healers
EVERGREEN DEN
// EVERGREEN DEN //
I recently found myself unexpectedly enraptured by a true Evergreen Den of Hawaii. While camping on the mountainside of Haleakala, Maui’s extinct volcano, we found ourselves immersed in a lush forest of cedar woods, pines & eucalyptus trees ~ the very botanicals of which this elixir is created. The tucked-away den exuded my favorite aromatic aspects of this blend: resinous wood & fresh camphor, cool mountain air & morning dew. While Evergreen Den often leaves me with Northeast & Northwest nostalgia, it was lovely to find such scents hidden away on a Hawaiian island.
All Over Oil is a super versatile hair + body oil, available in 5 blends each featuring a unique essential oil of Hawaii. Available for $12 / $20.
BLUE MOON BALM
|| BLUE MOON BALM ||
A pain-relieving rub for your monthly moon ~ simply massage onto abdomen & low back to relieve cramping. All the herbs in this formula are warming in nature, move the blood to keep things flowing, calm the spirit & alleviate pain: by applying in circular motions, you can actually feel heat being generated on your skin. The center of the balm features a ‘blue moon’ of soothing blue chamomile essential oil. In addition to working womanly wonders, this salve can also alleviate general muscle cramps & pains. Available in a 1 oz tin for $14.
Blue Chamomile
// BLUE //
Totally entranced by this beautiful blue chamomile essential oil. I love how botanical extractions can unlock colors + flavors + scents + properties hidden inside of plants, like the blue azulene that is revealed in the distillation of German Chamomile {aka Matricaria recutita}. Certain flowers contain higher amounts of azulene, which is known for its anti-inflammatory & skin healing properties. I am stoked to be currently experimenting with its magic for a new #BlueMoonBalm elixir in the works!
Sangre de Drago
// SANGRE DE DRAGO //
I am now offering one of the most indispensable botanical allies in my apothecary. Dragon’s Blood is sourced by ‘bleeding’ the Amazonian tree Croton lechleri, and its truly miraculous exudate can be used on all sorts of skin issues – I literally never go anywhere without it. The resin functions as a liquid bandage over open + bleeding cuts, aiding to quickly clot blood, form a scab & prevent infection; I’ve even used it to successfully heal deep wounds when stitches were not an option. A thin layer of Sangre can also clear up serious skin infections {including staph}, stop the itch of bug bites & greatly reduce pimples. After attempting to incorporate the resin into various elixirs, I’ve come to the conclusion that it simply is perfect on its own and therefore I want to be able to provide it in its purest form.
